How To Care For Granite Worktops

Granite is one of the toughest stones and are made from the igneous rocks. These are extremely long lasting and most importantly, are highly hygienic. These stones are widely used as worktops in kitchens as well as bathrooms. Modern kitchens and bathrooms are constructed by using these stones in order to make the worktops durable and at the same time they provide an elegant look to the kitchens and the bathrooms. These stones can be of different colours and textures which depend on the mineralogy and they are resistant to conditions like heat, stain, scratch etc.

These stones are water proof and are even resistant to extreme conditions like heat or strain. These type of stones are resistant to stains as well. Though the sealing is always done on the granite worktops from the factory, these still need to be resealed at regular intervals. Ideal interval for resealing would be 4 Months.

How To Care For These Worktops

The maintenance of these worktops is quite simple. The procedures are discussed below:

• These need not be rubbed with metallic elements like wire wool or pads made up of metals. These worktops can be cleaned and rinsed with warm water and can be dried with chamois leather or damp dusters.

• Scouring washing powders should be avoided and normal washing powder, non harsh detergents can be used.

• If stubborn liquid spills on these then it should be cleaned immediately, especially oily substances.

• Accumulation of salt or detergent should be avoided.

• These should not come into the contact of harsh chemical materials like brush cleaner, paint stripper, oven cleaner etc.

• These worktops should be sealed after the interval of every four months to reduce their inherent porosity.

• Do not hit these worktops with heavy and blunt substances because it might cause cracks and even cause these worktops to break.

• The usage of chopping boards are highly recommended to prevent the situation of physical damage.

• Always try to place overly heated pans or other utensils over the tripods or materials of that nature to increase the durability.

• Stains should be removed by using natural substances and it is recommended to use the substances like alkaline degreaser or any other stain remover which is water based.

• Whenever there is a requirement for the repair of these worktops it is recommended to seek expert advice.
